Hull Truck's Final Season at Spring Street
In 2009, Hull Truck Theatre will be moving into a brand new, purpose-built, £15 million venue on Ferensway in Hull. As part of their historic final season in the original Spring Street theatre, they invited back a mix of popular shows from the last 30 years, one of which was My Favourite Summer, and Marc was proud to introduce the world to Melvin once again.....

Reviews for My Favourite Summer 2008
The Stage :
"Marc Bolton plays Melvin in what is a stand out performance, raucously and deservedly cheered by the audience." (Kevin Berry)
Yorkshire Post, The Guide, Stage Top 5
No. 1 : My Favourite Summer
Nick Lane's script has all the
brightness and warmth of a hot summer day - and it is beautifully
acted. One of the most enjoyable plays in the region at the minute.
"...this production...serves as a reminder of just how good Hull Truck Theatre has become...a nationally important company which has a knack of unearthing the best local talent - such as Nick Lane, writer of My Favourite Summer, and the actors who appear in it. It is witty, heartfelt and moving, and beautifully acted by Yorkshire's favourite everyman actor Matthew Booth and by Marc Bolton as Melvin, who this time around steals the show. We all should hope that the quality stays this high." (Nick Ahad)
Dig Yorkshire.com:
"My
Favourite Summer is packed with laughs, particularly...whenever nutcase
Melvin is on stage...the hard-working cast create a host of hilarious
characters...Certain to lift your spirits as the nights draw in!" (Ruth Pickering)
Hull Daily Mail: "If
fury had a human form it might look a little like Melvin...viciously
funny...a real crackle to the performance...Marc Bolton plays Melvin as
the complete Alpha Male...a steely certainty...reaching comic
heights..." (Will Ramsey)
Beverley Guardian
"All three actors were outstanding in their roles, but . . . Marc Bolton . . . brought Melvin wonderfully to life and we looked forward to hearing his pearls of wisdom and unique view on life. You'll have to see for yourself, everything is in the delivery...Wonderfully funny, yet poignant, raucous and rude, yet never offensive this play is a welcome ray of sunshine - don't miss it." (Julia Pattison)
Goole Today
"This
wonderful production had the audience splitting their sides
continuously . . . an excellent night out and a very pleasant change
from all the doom and gloom of the recent global crisis. A true tonic
indeed and well done once again Hull Truck." (WKH)
Review Gate
"...Marc Bolton's imperturbable Melvin, fearsome, yet with a sharp comic edge." (Timothy Ramsden)
